Many people say that pregnancy over 35 carries a greater risk, as there will be complications throughout pregnancy and delivery. That is not actually true. If the mother attends her monthly checks and follows the doctor’s recommendations, there will be no problem. Even if the baby is in the right position inside the uterus, she can give birth, by natural or vaginal delivery
“The only risk that may arise is genetic for giving birth to a child with Down syndrome. Therefore, some tests are done between the 11th and 13th week of pregnancy to diagnose with 90% accuracy if there is any problem or not”, says Alida Oblitas, Gynecologist at Clínica Ricardo Palma
Good advices
• Attend your monthly checks
• Consume calcium and vitamins prescribed by your doctor
• Reduces stress and anxiety, for example, through breathing exercises, yoga or pilates
Previous preparation
It is important to prepare your body at least three months before you get pregnant. This involves strengthening healthy food (vegetables, fruits, enough water and lean meats), doing physical activity (helps control anxiety and stress) and taking folic acid (helps to prevent birth defects), after consulting your doctor
During pregnancy, the mother may suffer from preeclampsia (high blood pressure), but that can be regulated with medical checks
