A frequent pathology among male newborns is that of the undescended testes, which causes great concern in parents
Usually, testes descend on their own within the child’s first months of life, but if time passes and testes do not naturally descend, the child will need treatment
So far the cause of this disorder is not defined. However, there is a consensus that it may be due to endocrine, genetic, or environmental factors, among others
The suggested ideal age to correct this pathology has varied over time. A few years ago, it was advised to wait until the age of 10; now it is different. It is recommended to start when the baby is around 6 to 18 months old
To correct this problem, it is necessary to make a physical examination for a good diagnosis, which is complemented by an ultrasound of the testes
The surgical correction is simple. It is inguinal and may also be done using laparoscopy
