Technology and education unite against Cancer. This disease is gaining ground in the world and our country is not different to this reality. The lack of information, inadequate life styles and limited access to preventive programs make this disease more and more frequent in the population. This is what Dr. Mauricio León, head of the Mastology Unit of Clinica Ricardo Palma and president of the Foundation against cancer “Mauchis” warns.
In Peru, 60% of cancer cases affect women, breast cancer being the second most frequent as well as mortality, according to the 2018 Globocan reports. Statistics indicate that it claims around 1,800 lives annually. Not for less, more than 60% of cases are diagnosed in advanced stages. Herein lies the importance of having a medical check-up in a timely manner and promoting a culture of prevention, which is almost non-existent in our country.
In this context, technology and innovation are two great allies to strengthen health education and raise awareness among the population about the importance of eliminating some bad habits that contribute to the development of multiple pathologies. Several studies reveal that a large number of cancers can be prevented simply by leading a healthy lifestyle.
The specialist at Clinica Ricardo Palma highlights that prevention is the most important strategy in the fight against this disease that kills 11 women per day in Peru due to breast and cervical cancer. Therefore, it is essential that the population is well informed about the protection measures, risk factors, early detection and treatments that exist to fight it.
Artificial intelligence (AI) to educate
“Mauchis” is a platform that works with artificial intelligence. Use clear, simple and friendly language to educate the population on how to prevent cancer. It is free, easily accessible, solves frequent queries and provides recommendations to reduce the risk of developing this disease. Its main objective is to prevent people from arriving with advanced cancer for consultation.
Users of “Mauchis” can not only benefit from relevant information on prevention, supportive counseling and cancer treatments; they also have access to the actions that doctors carry out for the benefit of patients with fewer resources and to the educational activities organized by the “Mauchis” Foundation. For this reason, all people are invited to follow them on their Facebook networks as “Mauchis”, for this, they only have to enter the Messenger application and search for “Mauchis” and make their inquiries through inbox. Another option is to visit the website www.mauchis.org where you will also find all the information.
