Insulin resistance affects millions of people worldwide. It is usually seen before diabetes develops if you do not take certain precautions. It is a disease that does not show many symptoms, but it requires urgent attention. “Insulin resistance is a condition in which insulin produced by the pancreas has difficulty acting and controlling blood glucose levels”, explains Endocrinologist Ray Ticse of Clínica Ricardo Palma.
There are few signs that could show that you actually have diabetes such as color changes (darker) in body folds, especially in the neck and armpits. Obese or overweight people having a bad diet and a sedentary life are most likely to have this disease.
“The good news is that it is a transitory condition: you can stop having diabetes by changing eating habits and following medical treatment; otherwise it could lead to other diseases such as hypertension, cholesterol, among others”, said the Specialist.
