Reducing the stress of surgical interventions, helping children and parents to cope with a complex health situation, are some of the objectives of this project
With the aim of reducing the fear, stress and anxiety caused by a surgery at an early age, the pediatric surgical center of Clinica Ricardo Palma has implemented a novel project for the transfer to the operating room of the pediatric patients, using electric toy cars that replace the stretchers.
The journey to the operating room will be friendlier and less traumatic, making it a game for children, making them feel more relaxed and happier. The electric car is remotely controlled by a charge nurse.
“This project responds to an objective of sanitary quality oriented to the concept of humanization. It is normal for all patients, especially the youngest ones, to feel anxiety and emotional tension in the hospital environment prior to a surgical intervention, for this reason we join this proposal that allows us to help the patient and their family to better cope with these types of situations” says Dr. Grace Escobedo, Deputy Health Manager at Clinica Ricardo Palma.
Also, Dr. Edgar Amorín, Head of the Operating Room at Clinica Ricardo Palma explains that several investigations on the importance of creating friendly environments in the hospital environment, ensure that reducing the nerves of a pediatric patient also facilitates pre-surgical procedures, improving conditions to pre-anesthetic induction.
It should be noted that the transport in an electric toy car has been incorporated into the set of initiatives implemented under the pediatric project “Kenko’s adventures”, with which, through a series of activities, we seek to humanize the hospital environment for our little patients, showing important values such as responsibility, friendship, courage and prudence.
