“At Clinica Ricardo Palma we have all the necessary medical technology, video camera devices, and instruments to successfully perform hip arthroscopy. Thanks to this technique, our patients will increase their quality of life, since they will be able to perform activities they thought they would never be able to do again”, says Dr. David Vera, a traumatologist of our clinic, who gives us more details about hip arthroscopy.
What is hip arthroscopy?
Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique indicated for the treatment of hip pathologies. The intervention consists of making 2 to 3 cuts or incisions of 1 to 2 centimeters each, on the side of the affected hip. Through these incisions a video camera and the necessary instruments are introduced, allowing the specialist to perform the correction or treatment in the hip.
In which cases is this surgical technique indicated?
This surgery is very effective for patients with the following diagnoses:
What are the benefits of hip arthroscopy?
This procedure is of great benefit to patients, as it prevents or delays wear and tear of the hip (osteoarthritis of the hip) caused by cyclical damage, for example, in the case of hip impingement.
Post-surgery care
Regarding postoperative care, this will depend on the repaired damage and generally consists of relative rest, i.e., walking with crutches for approximately 3 weeks and postponing the practice of sports activities for a period of 1 or 2 months.
