Start a good relationship not only between parents and children, but with the whole family on a good foot for the next year.
The Christmas and New Year holidays are good moments to promote values and reinforce family unity that will accompany your children for the rest of their lives and will form them into good people. Alexandra Sabal, a psychologist from the Ricardo Palma Clinic, states that parents have the mission of teaching their children that December is not a month for gifts, but for empathy, humility, gratitude and solidarity. In light of this, she advises on what goals should be accomplished as a family from now on, and not to wait for the next year.
“That they see themselves in the shoes of other kids who most likely won’t get a present or a Christmas dinner. This will give the value of solidarity priority “she claims. On the other side, encourage your youngster to look for toys to donate and take them to charitable organizations. However, understand that they should not give away what they do not need, but rather what they believe can make other children happy like them. The specialist mentions that the secret of a healthy relationship in a family is good communication. “Always speak with respect, there should be no yelling or hitting because the child will believe it is normal. Even if you have several children, they should all be valued equally,” Sabal recommends.
Activities
Avoid boredom or feeling overwhelmed at home. Now that the holidays are coming, parents should provide opportunities for fun and humor with trips, outings with friends, and useful activities. They can identify what skills they want to develop as a family and take the initiative to learn them together with their children, for example, drawing classes, dance classes, mini chefs, robotics, among others.
Similarly, the expert states that for everything to work well, healthy habits should be adopted as a family. These habits can be starting an exercise routine, going for a run in the park, having a karaoke day on Sundays. Also, in terms of diet, avoid consuming junk food, processed foods or saturated fats.
“This will help with good growth, prevent chronic diseases from an early age and establish healthy habits for the whole family,” she assured.
