Patients suffering from diabetes have trouble digesting carbohydrates because their pancreas is not working properly, causing high blood sugar levels. Therefore, their immune system is weak. So, what would happen if they get coronavirus?
Nutritionist Karyn Reyna Ocampo explains, “If they contract the virus their respiratory system will not work well and if the base disease (diabetes) is added to this picture, the patient becomes at high risk for having two systems with failures. So they must have a correct diet.”
It should be noted that their foods are the same whether or not the virus is present, but due to the pandemic, they should have a greater emphasis on the following:
It also recommended that all processed and packaged food should be avoided. “Nothing happens if one day you don’t eat chicken, meat, or fish. You can substitute protein for a quinoa salad and everything will be fine”, emphasized Ms. Reyna Ocampo.
If your glucose level is controlled, it is best not to go to hospitals. However, if your glucose level is high, visit your family doctor using a mask and avoiding contact with other people.
