The gallbladder sludge affects more women with children and people with obesity. Physical activity and healthy emptying of bowels help avoid this condition
The “sludgy” gallbladder or biliary sludge is a term that has not been heard very often, but it is a common condition in the population, only some people feel discomfort while others do not.
“This problem occurs when the bile of the gallbladder becomes thick for two reasons: genetic constitution (predisposition) or excess of cholesterol, salts and toxins in the body,” says Roberto Piccini, Gastroenterologist at Clínica Ricardo Palma
If you feel pain on the right side of your abdomen, under your ribs (after eating fats), nausea, vomiting and, in some cases, your skin turns yellow, it is important that you do an abdominal ultrasound to see if there is ” sludge “in your gallbladder or any other problem
Do not let it go, if you only relieve the pain with pills, your condition may become worse and, worst case scenario, it may end up in a generalized infection
This condition – says the doctor – happens more frequently in women who have children (the gallbladder becomes more lazy and this causes the bile to stagnate and become thick), in people with obesity and in those over the age 45
Did you know that in some cases, the biliary sludge can turn into gallstones (like pebbles) and seriously affect the gallbladder
Prevention
Follow a healthy diet Drink plenty of water or at least a liter and a half (6 glasses) a day. Practice a sport that you like or go jogging or riding a bicycle, you can even dance. The idea is to move your body
