“There is no specific age to perform in vitro fertilization (IVF), as each woman is different and fertility factors may vary. In general, it is recommended for those over 35 and under 50 years of age, or after a previous low-complexity procedure has not been successful. At the Institute of Reproductive Medicine of Clinica Ricardo Palma we have success rates comparable to those obtained in other centers around the world“, says Dr. Alicia Seminario, gynecologist at our clinic.
What is in vitro fertilization – IVF?
It is an assisted reproduction procedure in which the union of the woman’s egg and the man’s sperm is performed outside the woman’s body, in the laboratory, to form an embryo and then transfer it to the uterus.
What segment of women is it aimed at?
What are the chances of pregnancy with this procedure?
The probabilities of pregnancy may vary according to several factors: age, quality of the eggs and sperm used, the experience of the medical team, and the quality of the laboratory. On average, the success rate of IVF is usually around 50% per treatment cycle, which could be improved with other studies such as the chromosomal study of embryos with which the rate rises to 70%.
