Chickenpox is caused by a virus called varicella zoster. This condition was very recurring and affected many children in the past. What is Chickenpox?

It is a highly contagious viral skin disease that affects 90% of susceptible individuals before the age of 20.

What are its symptoms?

Chickenpox manifests itself in the form of rashes, known as vesicle eruptions that appear all over the body, causing a lot of itching. These blisters later become scabs that fall off on their own when they dry. Chickenpox usually triggers a fever.

How many days does Chickenpox usually last?

This condition usually has an incubation period of 14 to 21 days and tends to heal in 7 to 10 days.

How is it treated?

Usually, the treatment of chickenpox is symptomatic; that is, it focuses on relieving the symptoms that may occur in patients, mainly pruritus. In case of complications, specific therapy is provided. Complications can be, for example, superinfections of the skin, neurology, hematology, among others.

• Keep the nails short and clean, in order to prevent the little one from scratching and could cause a superinfection.
• Bathe the child daily with soap and water.
• Avoid using creams, talc or any type of flour on the skin.
