Symptoms

Initial cancer: asymptomatic

Advanced Cancer:

• Abdominal distension
• Weight loss
• Abdominal pain
• Abnormal menstrual cycle

Risk factors

Although it is not yet clear what causes ovarian cancer, there are some risk factors such as:

• Background: family members who have or have had ovarian, breast or colorectal cancer.
• Age: The risk of this cancer increases with age, as it is rare in women under 40 years of age.
• Fertility: not having had children increases the risk of this disease.
• Overweight or high-fat diet.

Treatment

The most effective way to fight ovarian cancer is through surgery, removing the affected area. On the other hand, if there is metastasis, the treatment consists of performing chemotherapy.

Prevention

So far there is no specific prevention method. However, it is important for all women once their sexual activity has begun to undergo a comprehensive gynecological evaluation annually, in order to detect any anomaly early. In addition, a screening should be done for cervical cancer and in general for other neoplasms.
