Currently, Clinica Ricardo Palma has a fluorescence laparoscopy (ICG) tower with 4K image to perform more precise and safe surgical procedures, as well as revascularization surgeries, conventional surgeries and imaging diagnoses, reducing the time in the room and decreasing the risk of complications. Dr. Rafael Garatea, general and oncological surgeon of our institution, explains that with this new technology the anatomical structures that the surgeon is interested in intervening are observed in real time and with ultra-definition. Next, our specialist will give us more information
Laparoscopy tower and high-resolution fluorescence
The laparoscopic tower has a monitor that makes it possible to distinguish whether the blood perfusion to organs and tissues is adequate. In addition, with the reproduction of images on the screen, the surgeon sees the anatomical structure of the patient and overcomes the visual limitation that can sometimes be experienced when performing a conventional (open) surgery.
On the other hand, high-resolution fluorescence is performed with indocyanine green, a fluorescent dye that is administered intravenously to impregnate the intervened area. This allows to visualize, in real time, the anatomy intra-operatively once the vision is activated on the monitor that is used.
Fluorescence laparoscopy can be applied in the following fields:
This technology helps to make surgeries less invasive and safer in the aforementioned fields, more efficiently delimiting the compromised segments and more precise. In addition, healthcare professionals have greater opportunities to provide accurate diagnoses and safe treatments to their patients.
