The vaccination process against COVID-19 continues to advance in our country, and Clinica Ricardo Palma Clinic is one of the private institutions selected by the Ministry of Health to be part of the “Vaccine for all” plan. In this sense, Dr. Julio Cachay, an internist and specialists in infectious diseases at our institution, offers us some recommendations to take into account after receiving the vaccine.

• It is necessary to wait fourteen days after the last inoculation for the organism to increase its immunity. That is, if a person is exposed to the virus a day or a week after being vaccinated, they are still vulnerable, they can become infected and infect anyone with whom they have contact.
• On the other hand, by being exposed to SARS-CoV-2 after several weeks of immunization, you will still contract the virus. Inoculation prevents a serious disease from developing, but there is always a risk of infection.
• After being vaccinated, the use of a mask, continuous hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds and physical distance of 2 meters are necessary and indispensable measures that should continue to be applied.

Dr. Cachay recommends being patient and constant in our care, since to reduce the number of hospitalizations and deaths, 80% of the population would have to be immunized. The pandemic is not over yet and we must continue to respect biosecurity measures for the well-being of all. We must not trust ourselves.
