The “Peru con Plasma” project is looking for men who have recovered from Covid-19 in Hospitals. The person must be between 30 and 60 years old, have more than 21 days of discharge, and have been in the ICU.

Efforts for Covid-19 treatment are already bearing fruit in our country. This is the case of the “Peru con Plasma” project, which has started searching for plasma donors that have defeated the deadly coronavirus.

The former Minister of Health, leader and spokesperson for the investigation, pointed out that the “super donors” who join this cause must meet the following requirements: men between 30 and 60 years old, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and hospitalized in ICU.

Also, they must have more than 21 days from the date of discharge and must not have received blood transfusions before.

Dr. Julio Cachay, Infectious Diseases Specialist of Clínica Ricardo Palma, welcomed this initiative and recalled that the antibodies generated by infections are concentrated in the blood plasma. “When the blood is centrifuged it is divided into two layers: a bottom layer with the red blood cells and a top layer with a yellowish transparent solution that is water where these antibodies swim”, he explained.

Transfer of antibodies from one person to another through the plasma is known as passive immunity, while the vaccine is called active immunity.
